Key Opinion Leaders or KOL’s are those who can influence the other people the most. It is challengeable to influence others behavior as well as thoughts. It is quite difficult to change the perspective of a particular person towards new things. The opinion leaders are those who are individual within the organizations which are perceived trustworthy, influential and credible. They have lots of social networks. They have got these contacts through their daily personal interactions with the people. They are the ones who can adopt new ideas and thinking and are capable of influencing their colleagues. These opinion leaders bring these changes by creating awareness, modeling the new behavior and giving more encouragement to such contemplating changes.

Studies tell us, that training is very rarely needed to make Key Opinion Leaders. So obviously, this Opinion Leader programs are not as costly as staff training programs. Then these OL’s (Opinion Leaders) which are trained can start influencing other people or their colleagues immediately after the training program. But becoming a good Opinion leader is difficult task.

You are in for a surprise, if you think who your key opinion leader is. You can neither pick them nor assign them. Most of the Key Leaders get their inspiration or influence from the sources like popularity, credibility etc. These Key Leaders don’t include you, not as you can’t influence people or you don’t have that capability but you have that influence which comes with rank or title. These Key Opinion Leaders are not assigned. They develop over a time within any organization. If a group has not been together from long time then it means Opinion Leaders of today will be different in six months or a year.

So now you know who are likely not to be your Key Opinion Leaders. Then how will you find your Key Opinion Leaders?

Here is the answer- It is really not so hard. You just have to ask some people! If in a organization, you will go around asking about the Key Leader over there, they may laugh at you. It is not an assigned job or role. Just tell people in the organization to write some names of the people who they respect. And you’re done with it! No qualifications, no detailed explanations about the respect or anything. Collect all the answers and names which come up often, and there you are! Go on and find the Key Opinion Leaders in your organization!
