For those who are desperately looking out for ways to cut off that excess calorie, gastric bypass surgery is what you can consider. The surgery may last up to forty minutes and is quite different from the lap band surgery.

Gastric bypass surgery is quite different from the lap band surgery. Lap band surgery involves dividing the stomach into two parts to help regulate the food flowing from the upper portion of the stomach to the lower portion of the stomach.

Gastric bypass surgery, on the other hand, involves a process where a pouch is stapled on top of the stomach and is connected directly to the Roux limb. This surgery will be helpful in regulating your digestion and will also restrict in the amount of food that is being taken. The benefit of this procedure is that it also helps in regulating the amount of fat that is absorbed in the body.

However, not all patients are good candidates of gastric bypass surgery. Those patients who wish to undergo this surgery must fulfill certain parameters. Whether a candidate is eligible for this surgery is decided on the basis of his/her BMI, eating habits, medical issues (if there are any) and other psychological conditions.

Those patients who suffer from anxiety or depression often develop the habit of overeating which is often referred to as binge eating. This is one of the major causes of obesity.

Today with the development in technology, such issues can be handled with the combined restrictive and malabsorptive techniques to cut down the excess body weight. Laproscopy is the method that is often adopted to perform this process.

This method involves minimally invasive techniques which takes shorter time to recover. However, not all types of gastric bypass surgery involve invasive technique. Usually, gastric bypass surgery is performed under anesthesia.
