Shelves in warehouses and soup kitchens up and down the country are more filled than ever thanks to generous donations from the public and local businesses.

However the shelving at the Greater Green Bay Foundation’s warehouses may soon be even more filled as the local newspaper, The Press Gazette has launched a new campaign called Stock The Shelves.

This campaign has been set up to try to fill the shelves of the warehouses up with more food and supplies for the poor and homeless in the local area.

With only a few days into the initiative, the newspaper has managed to raise a staggering $57,062 worth of food.

Speaking on behalf of the paper, Kevin Corrado said that there was still the opportunity to get even more food donated.

He said: “We thanks all who have contributed to date and we invite others to join in this campaign to aid those who are in need of our assistance.

“We urge everyone to help stock the shelves.”

This food will be donated to the Brown County Food and Hunger Network which is made up of over 20 different food pantries in the Brown County. This has been feeding the poor people of the area for many years but it has seen an increase in the number of people coming to the pantries in recent years due to the economic recession.

Some local supermarkets and businesses donate unwanted food which then can be used to feed families that cannot afford to buy food in the recession. And thanks to this campaign, the more food and money that is raised, the more people it can be used to feed.

In recent months, a chilled storage facility has also been donated by Versa Cold which also means that the charitable group is able to offer people chilled meats and vegetables
