Business postcards have been around for a long time now. Many small businesses have been using these cards to promote their business in the most convenient and cost effective way. But are postcards really a worthy investment in this age of electronic cards and email? Certainly! Postcards are inexpensive, clever, flexible, and, most of all, effective marketing tool. But why do many people don’t see the worth and importance of these cards? Perhaps they have been consumed with the idea that digital marketing is the best, easiest, and most cost effective way of marketing today.

One man though has experienced progress by just simply using postcards to sell cards. By simply sending post cards to his clients each month, he was able to gain their trust and sell cards in return. He had 12 designs created for him to be sent out each month. His cards did not contain a complex message. Just the phrase, ‘I like’ and ‘Merry Christmas’ or ‘Happy Valentines’ or ‘Happy New Year’. He simply stayed visible to his customers and told them that he likes them. Today, he has left selling and now a book writer and motivational speaker. He is not considered as the World’s Greatest Salesman. He is none other than Joe Girard.

If that’s how powerful postcard marketing is, why don’t other businesses take advantage of this simple tool today? Why do some business owners don’t want to be caught using post cards? Whatever their reason is, they are missing out on one of the most important and effective marketing tool present today.

If postcard marketing system worked for Joe, surely it can work in many other businesses including you. If you wish to carry out a post card marketing campaign today, here are some pointers to consider:

- If you want to get noticed with your post cards, practice consistency. Postcard marketing is not a one time campaign. You need to do it consistently, perhaps monthly or quarterly, to build recognition. For instance, you are going to have your annual trade show soon. Three months before the trade show, you can send out post cards as teasers before the final event. You can also send out cards after the show as a form of follow up.

- Some occasions you can send out postcard printing are birthday, holidays, and special sales. You can also send cards as thank you notes, coupons, or even just simple thinking of you cards. There are practically many reasons to send out post cards. Just let your imagination run and you can create 30 other great opportunities to send your postcards.

- Don't close a sale with your post card. Keep in mind that postcards are meant to make a sale. They are only designed to draw attention and encourage your prospects to know more about your offering by contacting you.

- There are different sizes of post cards. The standard size is 4” x 6” and the biggest is 6” x 11”. Naturally, if you stick with the standard size you get lesser printing and mailing cost.

- How you design your post card can mean either the drawer or the trash can for your prospects. Make your card a keeper by making it attractive and interesting in every way. Make it simple yet classy, and get it noticed in a positive way.
